BiographyDan Rubenstein, the son of a gifted artist, brings to his work in ecological accounting the perspective of a professional accountant, a human geographer and a legislative auditor. Dan’s practical experience with the Office of the Auditor General of Canada includes helping to set up the function of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development. Dan had written numerous articles and a book (Environmental Accounting for the Sustainable Corporation, Greenwood 1994) on how to build the costs of consuming nature into the five hundred year old double entry accounting system. If nature had a cost accountant, it would be Dan. Dan is President of Scales of Governance. The firm specializes in the application of the principles of accountability to social issues such as gambling and accounting for nature’s limits.
