Kate Pickett is professor of epidemiology at the University of York and a cofounder and director of the Equality Trust. She is coauthor, with Richard Wilkinson, of the best-selling book "The Spirit Level," now translated into 23 languages and voted one of the top ten books of the decade by the "New Statesman."
