Olivier De Schutter has been the UN special rapporteur on the right to food since 2008. He is a professor at the University of Louvain in Belgium and a visiting professor at Columbia University in New York, the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne, and the College of Europe, also in Belgium. An expert in globalization and human rights, he has been associated with key reforms in the governance of global food security that have taken place since the 2008 global food crisis, including the reform of the World Committee on Food Security. His mandate as special rapporteur is independent from any government or organization.
