Steve has worked with city governments on policies and initiatives to improve their sustainability for the past 20 years. His focus for the past decade has been cities in Indonesia, primarily on the islands of Java and Kalimantan. Through his advisory work for ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability in 2010 he became aware of the water supply crisis in many cities of Central Java. Subsequent work for the Urban Low Emissions Development program in Indonesia highlighted the potential for incremental policy change to lead to significant infrastructure investment and sustainable improvements in environmental and social conditions.
